TORI COMIC BOOK TATTOO OUT JULY 23, 2008.

A beautiful book is about to be born into the world. I saw the proofs at the Book Expo, while I was there with Neil. The pages are stunning...and the fact that Rantz did so much work under great personal strain, i am in awe. It is the shape and size of an album cover, a medium near and dear to my LP-lovin' heart.

I am the luckiest girl to have been involved in it, writing my take on my favorite Tori Amos song, SUGAR...my first published script...
and Neil does a wonderful introduction to the book.

Available for pre-order at the Tori Store:
http://www.thetoristore.com/go/cart.php

***LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE ALREADY SOLD OUT OF THE LIMITED EDITION....

this from Tori's website (www.everythingtori.com):

This July the ever-growing relationship between comics and music reaches new heights as Tori Amos and Image Comics release COMIC BOOK TATTOO, a 480-page, full color anthology adapting the themes and ideas behind her songs into a lush volume of sequential art.

"I have been surprised, excited and pleasantly shocked by these comics that are extensions of the songs that I have loved and therefore welcome these amazing stories of pictures and words because they are uncompromisingly inspiring," says Amos. "It shows you thought is a powerful formidable essence and can have a breathtaking domino effect."

To assemble COMIC BOOK TATTOO's diverse roster of talent, Amos worked alongside editor Rantz Hoseley, co-creator behind the upcoming DISPLACED PERSONS and VIX. Together they formed a line up featuring Y: THE LAST MAN's Pia Guerra, Leah Moore, John Reppion David Mack, Hope Larson, Ryan Kelly, Jonathan Hickman, Colleen Doran, Eric Canete, Ted McKeever, Jock, Anthony Johnston, Dame Darcy, Carla Speed McNeil, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Mark Buckingham, Ivan Brandon, C. B. Cebulski and many more, including an introduction by SANDMAN creator Neil Gaiman.

COMIC BOOK TATTOO, a 12" x 12" 480-page anthology, will be in stores July 23rd. (this makes the Tori book a LEO!)

D. Darcy and I both have work in the upcoming Tori Amos compilation book; Comic Book Tattoo, which Mr. Rantz Hoseley master-minded and Neil most kindly wrote the introduction---I wrote a story based on Tori's song SUGAR...coming out in July.
Rantz was at the BEA promoting the book, Neil and I met up with him in the madness:

Honestly, at one point in the day, I had to call in for back-up, trying to guide Neil through the maze, we stopped for a moment and next thing I knew, Neil was being interviewed on camera, and I was losing my cool. We likened it to sharks, we couldn't stop moving or it might mean a certain death. Quiche, how i needed you at that moment, my dear!

here is Mr. Roger Avary, Oscar winner and delightful soul, wearing his Neverwear at the Scream awards last October:
if you haven't seen "Killing ZOe"... go now.... watch..... Eric Stoltz in France...mmmmm

Here all the way from New Zealand, by way of Iceland, is our first lady of Nordic goddessness: HERA, in her Lil' Neilwear:

here is my hero, Ruth Waytz, she is a one-woman bomb squad, capable of leaping tall buildings in a single bound, you get the picture----she is the good woman behind the wonderful artist Coop, see their magic at : www.coopstuff.com
here she takes a breather to sling mousepads for Neverwear. Ruth, j'adore!

i have saved the very best for last:

Balticon wrap-up and a dream of Elvis...

Malena dropped me off at LAX after some delicious and garlicky thai food. I boarded the plane, stopping to do my pre-flight magic ritual (which all i can say, is if you fly with me, you are safe). This would be a working vacation! I was scheduled to arrive in DC at midnight and my brother Bill would come to get me---knowing family was at the end of it made the flight easy.

We talked the whole drive to his house in the woods of Virginia. In the morning, after a dreamless sleep with White Kitty on my feet, i had breakfast with my brother and his wife. We got up early to go to see our parents. I never have enough time with them! They make even the dullest errand fun and sparkly. We spent the day readying the Neverwear booth for Balticon, where I would be spending my four-day weekend. i dined upon salads and the excellent company of my parents.

I picked up my rental car with their help and headed for Baltimore. Set up my table in a good spot and began to rearrange my wares...years of festival selling and carny lifestyle have paid off as i can easily work a booth alone now for days.

My comic book magnets were a surprisingly big draw. Several years ago, there was a flood in my rented beach house in Rehoboth. A box of my best comics was water-damaged. Instead of tossing them, i decided to make art out of them, drying the curling pages in the sun. I cut the panels that appealed most to me or told the best story. I cut recycled glass to fit the panels and framed them in copper. more recently i started adding a dash of glitter....(Boss has many of my magnets in his bathroom, i enrolled him in my "magnet of the month" club) Now people donate their damaged comics to me, to recycle into art...

Balticon seemd a bit underattended this year, maybe because of gas prices or where it fell in the month--but I had such a good time seeing old familiar faces and meeting entirely new ones...Danth! and Glen! and Nora! and Donna and Steven from Ego Likeness (i am now proud owner of some gorgeous original artwork by Steven, photos soon)

Urban Tapestry, the Canadian musical guest stopped by....(Quiche, you would have approved!)

Here is DanGuy in his Neverwear, with GoH's Connie Willis, John Jude Palancar and a helpful elfstress!

Blogger is discouraging photos so I will truncated this post and continue tomorrow...after the Book Expo! See why a girl's stories are often untold...

me again, i am putting two posts together and I PROMISE TO POST SOME SHIRT PHOTOS THAT I HAVE RECEIVED SOON.
sorry, life is busy...

so! to finish up with the Balticon post, before I launch in to the latest weekend's happenings...

Douglas Adams was the Ghost of Honor at the convention, here he is with his Lil' Neil Neverwear tee...

His luminous handler was faithfully carrying her towel. Here she is, showing off her Lisa Snellings purchase....

Here is miss Rayvn, Nora, one of the Balticon ladies-in-charge, looking sassy in her Neverwear. She is proposing the oh-so-talented Miles Teves for next year's convention as artist guest. Watch and see what happens...

Last night I had the best dream, i was touring with ELvis, and it was him, and we spoke throughout the dream, and i wasn't surprised to see him, because in my dream i didn't know that he was supposed to be dead. It wasn't the very young ELvis, nor was it the older Vegas ELvis, it was an evolved Elvis...and during my dream, i looked up into the sky to see a huge raven flying with a small creature clutched in his claws. He circled down and dropped a tiny black panther at my feet, a little bigger than my Batman. In my dream, this baby panther spoke to me and bit my hand hard enough to draw blood. What he told me is now gone, but i remember waking up with such stars in my eyes.

..soon a BEA post. today Drew and I will drive to Santa Barbara and then see a Peter Murphy show tonight, still behind in the blogging, but ahead in the adventures....
